Run For Canada Tomorrow

The Hbc Run For Canada is finally here ... 10K starts tomorrow morning 8 am, 1K kids run starts 9:30 am, and 3K family walk starts 10 am. Meet by the Bowring Park pool for all events.

Still not too late to register in person today at Zellers Stavanger Drive until 6 pm, and tomorrow Race Day July 1 in Bowring Park 6:30 - 7:30 am.

Congratulations to Karen Stacey and Jill Newhook on running the half-marathon for Canadian Diabetes in Brazil last weekend.

Karen placed 11th overall female in a field of 636 with a time of 1:35:46 ... 2nd in her age group. Jill was 82nd in 1:52:46. Full results available HERE.

Peter Power Takes Miquelon

With more than 7 minutes between first and second place, Peter Power claimed victory Saturday at the 2007 Miquelon 25K in a time of 1:28:23.

Run For Canada Just 12 Days Away !

The Hbc Run For Canada is ready to roll on Sunday July 1 in Bowring Park. The morning starts 8 am with a 10K road race down Waterford Bridge Road and back Southside Road. At 9:30 am there's a 1K kids run followed at 10 am by a 3K family walk along the Waterford River.

Medals for all participants, bands, face painting, magic, a pancake breakfast, fancy t-shirts and much more. Sign up online HERE, and if you're not participating why not VOLUNTEER!

McIlroy and Fewer 5K Champs

St. John's Day 10K This Saturday

Be sure to be there for the 27th running of the St. John's Athletic's Molson Lite Timex 10K this Saturday June 23. Race starts 8:30 am by Scotia Center on Water Street with a reception to follow at City Hall.

Register in advance Thursday June 21 from 6-9 pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road. Late registration race day 7:30 am at City Hall.

Ann Marie counted about 70 heads in the water for Saturday's 2nd Annual Olivers Pond Triathlon. Sunny and 25 degrees ... couldn't ask for a better day!

Run For Canada Dog Walk

As a lead-up to the July 1 Hbc Run For Canada, there will be a Dog Walk this Saturday June 16 in Bowring Park. Registration is $5 with all funds going to support Canada's Olympic Athletes.

Meet by the swimming pool 1 pm for a 3K stroll along the Waterford River. Leashes required (for your dog)!

Eastern Marathon & 15K Results

The inaugural Eastern Marathon and 15K took place last Sunday. Caroline Mcilroy captured the 15K title in 56:31 ahead of first place male Edward Durnford's winning time of 58:55.

Marathon victories went to Peter Gammon (3:19:19) and Abigail Steel (3:36:53). Full results are available on the NLAA site.

Fall Marathon In New Brunswick

The week after the Newfoundland Provincial Marathon our friends in New Brunswick have invited us to the Marathon By The Sea in Saint John September 23.

There are several distances to choose from but the challenge is out to beat the 2006 marathon times of 2:41:55 (Male Dave Eaton of Halifax) and 3:16:11 (Female Tammy Mercier Hacke of Halifax).

Oliver's Pond Heating Up

All this warm weather is readying things for next week's Oliver's Pond Sprint Triathlon. Ann Marie advises that the water temperature hit 18 degrees yesterday and invites everyone out to test the water tomorrow (Sunday June 10) at 1 pm. Great cooldown after the Eastern Marathon / 15K.

Downtown 5K Sunday June 17

The Provincial 5K Championship Series race returns to Water Street East again this year. The new route proved very popular last year and will again run from the Port Authority Building along Water Street to Patrick Street and back.

Race starts 8:30 am Sunday June 17. Register in advance Thursday June 14 from 6 - 9 pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road. Race day late registration 7:30 - 8 am, and post race reception at the Foran Room City Hall.

Eastern Marathon & 15K Registration

The Eastern Marathon and 15K is set to go this Sunday June 10. Register Thursday June 7 from 6 - 8:30 pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road for $50 ($55 for non-NLAA members). All participants get a watch, medal and t-shirt, and can attend a running seminar at Pearlgate Track Saturday June 9 from 7 - 8 pm.

Race kit pickup 6 - 7 pm Saturday at Pearlgate Track, or race morning 6 - 6:45 am at Sunshine Park. BBQ and awards presentation Sunday 6:30 pm at Portugal Cove - St. Phillips Town Hall on Thorburn Road.
