Burton's Pond 5k Registration Thursday

The second road race of the year is set to go this weekend. The Burton's Pond 5k starts Sunday morning at 9am. This is the first race in the 2008 Timex Series.

Register Thursday night from 6pm - 9pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road.

Rumble Strips Or Tumble Strips?

Newfoundland highways and major arterials will soon be edged with bumpy strips of pavement designed to wake up inattentive drivers when their vehicles sway over the line.

The BC Cycling Coalition states "we object to these installations on the grounds that they compromise the safety of cyclists while trying to compensate for motorists who are: driving with excessive speed; driving while drunk or drowsy; distracted; inattentive."

More Running Away

Add to the list of Ottawa runners Lisa McGrath, Mabel Nash and Donna Anne Wadden. All are doing the Half and it's the first one for Lisa and Mabel. Thanks to Steve Butler for the info.

Susan Myrden, Laura Feltham and Gord Nash are doing the Bluenose Half Marathon in Halifax May 18th.


And Steve Morrisey is running the MDS Nordian 10K in Ottawa May 24 following his half marathon appearance at the Sudbury Rocks Run For Diabetes May 4.


Phelan 2nd At Ironman China

After an injury-plagued 5 years, Donna Phelan has made a spectacular return to the Ironman distance with a 2nd place finish last Sunday at Ironman China.

Grant Off To The Races Again

Grant Handrigan is off to a flying start again this season. He finished the Vancouver Sun Run 10K yesterday in 32:00:05 for an amazing 32nd place out of 59,179 runners!

Next week Grant will tackle the Victoria Times Colonist 10K.

Tune in to Rogers Cable Channel 22 next Monday for Boston Marathon coverage starting with a preview show 9:30am our time followed by 6 hours of live coverage from 10:30am.

And the Women's Olympic Marathon Trials will be streamed live HERE starting 9:30am Sunday.

Race To The Sea August 8 & 9

The 6th Annual Lighthouse Relay Race To The Sea is set for August 8th and 9th 2008. The 110k run starts near Port Aux Basques and finishes in Rose Blanche. Relay teams should have 11 runners and each member must be over 16 years old.

Big Apple Win For Stephanie Hodge

Last November she won the Top Female Masters Honor at the New York City Marathon. And last week 42 year old NL Runner Stephanie Hodge was First Overall at the More Magazine Marathon in Central Park.

Stephanie has completed more than 50 marathons and among her many victories is a first place finish at the 2004 Nautilus Newfoundland Provincial Marathon.
