Run For Canada Canceled

The Annual Canada Day Hbc Run For Canada has been CANCELED.

Apparently Hbc is shifting their focus and resources leading into the 2010 Olympics. See their notice HERE.

Hypothermic Half Route Adjustments

Some minor adjustments made to improve the route for this Sunday's Hypothermic Half Marathon. Route description and map are HERE.

Race starts 8am by the Fire Station in Mount Pearl just up the hill from the Reid Center.

If you can volunteer please drop by the Running Room Churchill Square tomorrow night Thursday 6:30pm for a briefing and to confirm your spot.

Joints In Motion Session Saturday

The Arthritis Society will be holding an information session this weekend about the 2009 Joints In Motion destinations including Toronto, Barbados, Costa Rica and Italy.

Brockerville & Howard Hit Track Running

Ryan Brockerville started his indoor track season with Simon Fraser University in fine style with an excellent time of 8 minutes 27.78 seconds for the 3000 meters at the University of Washington Preview Meet in Seattle. Running in the A section of the race against some of the strongest runners from the Pacific coast of Canada and USA, the 19 year-old was 14th overall.

Meanwhile, in the women's 3000 meter event, Julia Howard made her debut at the distance, finishing 5th in 9 minutes 29.17 seconds.

Flexibility Improvement Session Monday

ANE is offering a practical hands-on stretching session this Monday January 19 7-9pm in the Phys Ed gymnasium at MUN. Session features Mario Di Santo ... come prepared to stretch!

Mario Di Santo is from Córdoba , Argentina and is a specialist in Flexibility: Neurophysiologic, Pedagogic and Practical Aspects. In Argentina , Mario has worked as a physical trainer for Rugby and Football teams and as well for gymnastics athletes and the general population. He has published two books in the areas of Flexibility and Movement and has been published numerous times in national scholarly journals. Mario is currently the Head of the Chair of Gymnastics III and IV at I.P.E.F in Córdoba , Argentina.

Again this year our friend in Boston Steve Paone is offering free accommodations for 2 NL Runners planning to run the April 20 Boston Marathon.

Steve has 23 Boston Marathons under his belt, has visited our province several times, ran the Tely in 2003, and is very thankful for the Newfoundland hospitality he's enjoyed over the years.
