Freiburg Results

Congratulations to Christiane Martin and Rob Gamberg on their excellent results from the Freiburg Half Marathon yesterday in Germany.

Chris ran 1:37 and placed 6th in her age group in a very tough field! Rob had a good race on a hilly course in a time of 1:47.

50k Ultra For Ryan

Michael Ryan from Marystown completed his second ultra marathon of the season on March 28 at the Terripan Mountain 50K in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. Michael placed 61st in a field of 146 starters with a time of 6 hours 19 minutes.

The Terrapin Mountain Ultra Marathon is event #2 in the six race Beast Series which consists of 6 trail ultra marathons run in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Michael will compete in all 6 events.

Corner Brook Triathlon August 2

The Olympic Distance Corner Brook Triathlon has been resurrected for Sunday August 2.

After a 2 year break to make room for the now defunct Ironman 70.3 in Pasedena, athletes will return to downtown Corner Brook for a 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run. Read the Western Star story HERE.

Beyond The Epic Run

If you're heading to the Boston Marathon drop by the Runner's World booth at the expo and meet Serge Roetheli of "Beyond The Epic Run" fame.

Serge has spent 5 years running around the world accompanied by his wife on motorcycle. She has filmed the whole thing and the documentary will soon be released.

Ultra For Power

NL Runner Leo Power will be in Morocco next week for the Marathon des Sables, an ultra event in which competitors run 151 miles over 6-7 days through the Sahara Desert.

Leo will carry everything he needs for the week (except tent and water), will prepare his own meals, and will endure temperature swings from freezing to 120 degrees Fahrenheit!

Chris McNeil (pictured) has again this year been named Captain of the elite national cycling Team H&R Block-Kona.

Riding with Chris will be another well known local cyclist Zack Garland.

Martin & Gamberg Off To Germany

Get Lucky 5K Postponed

The Get Lucky 5K Fun Run originally scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to next Saturday March 28 due the the bad weather in the forecast.

Sweetland Named To National Team

Kirsten Sweetland has been named to the Triathlon Canada National "Team Teck".

Kirsten's father Rob Sweetland, originally from Corner Brook, won the first ever St.John's Triathlon in 1985.

Canada Games Call For Triathletes

Triathlon Newfoundland and Labrador is putting together a triathlon team to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in PEI this August.

Keeping with tradition there will be MANY runners heading in Topsail Road on Friday April 10. Meet at the Tely 10 start line in Paradise 9am for the traditional Good Friday Tely 10 Teaser.

Vaughan Represents Canada

With just one week's notice Kate Vaughan jetted off to Florida this weekend to take a spot on the Canadian team at the NACAC Cross Country Championships.

Kate finished the 6k course in 12th spot, averaging 5:55 miles in a time of 22:01.

Paddy's Day Fun Run March 15

New World Running Club is hosting a 6K Paddy’s Day Fun Run Sunday March 15 in Donovan’s Industrial Park starting at the Turkey Tea start line (intersection of Glencoe and Dundee).

Course is a 3k loop down Glencoe Drive to Home Street, over to Clyde Ave, down to Sagona Avenue, up to Dundee Avenue and back the start. Cost is $5 and registration is at the start line 10am for a 10:30 start.

After the run you can join the gang and buy your own Paddy's Day brunch at Shamrock City Water Street.

Ski Marathon Saturday March 7

The 39th Annual Coleman's Ski Marathon is this Saturday March 7 in St.Anthony.

There are still a few spots left on a PAL charter flight leaving St.John's Saturday morning ... return is late Sunday to provide a second day of skiing in St.Anthony.
