Huffin' Puffin Results

Joe Dunford captured first place in yesterday's Provincial Marathon with a time of 2:45:23 while Allison Hobeika was first for the ladies in 3:11:56.

In the Half Marathon Peter Bazeley was first in 1:13:51 with Kate Vaughan following for fourth overall and first lady in 1:16:36.

And in the brand new Ekiden Marathon Team Relay first place went to ANE 3.5 (Jeff Collingwood, Paul Matthews, Tony Poole and Vaughan Paul) with a winning time of 2:48:47.

The Huffin Puffin Marathon gets a couple of mentions in THIS STORY about the aftermath of Hurricane Igor.

Online registration for this Sunday's marathon, half marathon, and marathon team relay is now closed. However you can still register in person during race kit pick-up tomorrow Saturday September 25 between noon and 1:30pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road.

Huffin' Puffin Makes 50 For Joe

Joe Ryan will be running his 50th marathon this weekend, and organizers are pleased and proud that he has chosen the Huffin' Puffin Marathon to mark the occasion!

Joe is also writing a history of the marathon in Newfoundland and Labrador and there are 3 years missing from the results archives. If you by chance have a copy of the marathon results for 1982, 1983 or 1995 please send them along to josryan@nl.rogers.com.

And a great way to cheer for Joe and the other 300 or so participants at this Sunday's races is to COME OUT AND VOLUNTEER! There are still many volunteer postions available so if you can help please SIGN UP HERE or drop a line to rdbriggs@mun.ca.

Cape To Cabot Wait List

Although the 2010 Cape To Cabot 20k road race is sold out, there are usually several runners that cancel out for a variety of reasons. To fill in those potential openings on the start line the organizers are maintaining a waiting list.

To get your name on the wait list CLICK HERE and complete the form. And while you're there you can also sign up to volunteer ... then if you don't make it to the start line you can still come out to enjoy the event and lend a hand.

Huffin' Puffin Volunteers Needed

The Huffin' Puffin Provincial Marathon is coming up on Sunday September 26 and in addition to the full marathon also includes the Half Marathon and the brand new Ekiden Marathon Team Relay.

Race organizers are closing Brookfield Road eastbound starting at Commonwealth Avenue. This improvement combined with 300 or so participants has greatly increased the need for volunteers.

Please consider helping out on race day and even if you are participating in either of the events, encourage your friends and family to volunteer ... great way for them to see all the action and cheer you on!

Blueberry Harvest 10K This Sunday

The 27th annual Blueberry Harvest 10K road race is this Sunday September 19 in Harbour Grace starting 9am.

Advance registration is available Wednesday 6-8pm at the Eastern Medical Clinic in Carbonear and Thursday 6:30-8:30pm at Toyota Plaza on Kenmount Road in St.John's.

King and Vaughan Take 5K Titles

Michael King (#911) edged out Will Fitzgerald in the last few hundred meters to win yesterday's Nautilus Provincial 5K road race, while Kate Vaughan comfortably captured first place for the females.

Paradise Running Club Registration

The Paradise Running Club is holding a registration session 7pm next Thursday September 16 at the Paradise Rotary Youth Community Center.

The 2011 annual fee is only $40 and includes your membership in the NLAA.

Provincial 5K Race Morning Registration

Online registration is now closed with almost 100 people signed up for the Provincial 5K's revived downtown course.

If you missed the online opportunity, fear not as you can still register in person Sunday morning from 7-7:45am in the Foran Room at City Hall. Race starts 8am on Water Street at Temperance Street.

5K Kit Pickup Sunday In Foran Room

Race bib number pickup for Sunday's Provincial 5K is from 7am-7:45am in the Foran Room at City Hall. The awards reception is also in the Foran Room immediately following the race.

Note that it's about 1.5k from City Hall to Temperance Street so please allow plenty of time to get to the start line by 8am.

Provincial 5K Road Closure

For this Sunday's Provincial 5K road race, Water Street will be closed to "through" traffic from Temperance Street to Waldegrave Street, and there will be a pylon running lane east and west between Waldegrave Street and Patrick Street.

Race starts 8am at the bottom of Temperance Street. If you're not running and can help out for an hour please email smitty@nlrunning.com and you will be assigned an excellent vantage point to view the race! Marshals check in at the finish line 7:15am to pick up flags and vests.

Provincial 5K Moving Back Downtown

The Provincial 5K road race scheduled for this Sunday September 12 has been approved by St.John's City Council for the Water Street course.

Race will start 8am by the Port Authority on Water Street east and proceed out to Patrick Street and back.

Register in advance HERE until midnight Thursday.

Open Water Swim Part 3 Tonight

The 3rd of 4 SplashnDash Open Water Swim Meets is scheduled for tonight Wednesday September 8 starting 6pm at Octagon Pond.

Last week's warm and calm water saw a full house with 42 swimmers. In the 1500 meter Gavin Dyke bettered his time from the week before by 43 seconds with a finish time of 16 minutes and 27 seconds while in the 750m competition Lindsay Denine took first place in 9:44.

September Races

Three races coming up this month, starting with the Provincial 5K on Sunday September 12. City Council is expected to approve the new downtown route at Tuesday's Council meeting. Register HERE until midnight next Thursday.

The Blueberry Harvest 10K is 9am Sunday September 19 in Harbour Grace.

And the Huffin Puffin Marathon, Half Marathon, and Ekiden Team Relay is Sunday September 26. Today is the last day for early bird registration so REGISTER NOW to save money and get your shirt ordered.
