Support For Canada Games Triathlon Team NL

TriNL is putting together a Support Team to enable the development of Triathlon Team NL for the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke Quebec.

The initial meeting for this group is set for 7pm next Monday April 4 at the Swilers Complex 100 Crosbie Road. If you are interested in supporting the development of our younger athletes and can help the team in ANY capacity over the next three years (planning, management, team identification & selection, coaching, fund raising, etc.) please plan to attend.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to help please drop an email to coach@trinl.com and Keith Manuel will keep you in the loop.

Note this is a meeting to organize support for the team and is not a call for potential team members.

Great Half For Handrigan

Grant Handrigan ran the New York Road Runners' Half Marathon last week in 1:11:03 just thirty seconds off his PB and good enough for 62nd overall and 22nd in his age group.

Grant was the 5th Canadian finisher.

Mundy Pond 5K April 24

Registration is now open for the Nautilus Mundy Pond 5K road race set for Sunday April 24 at 9am.

Course is the traditional 2 loops of Mundy Pond and it will be Easter Sunday so be sure to wear your bunny ears!

McCreath Back On Marathon Circuit

After a brief hiatus Jennifer McCreath is back running marathons and completed last week's Publix Georgia Marathon in 5:34:14.

Splash n' Dash Bricks & More

The popular Splash 'n Dash Thursday evening core/indoor bike combo at Goodlife Fitness downtown will be extended after this current session. Click HERE for more information and registration.

Also they will again this year be running a "Brick" Clinic on Saturday mornings consisting of a 60 minute + bike ride on your own bike/trainer followed immediately by a run on the trails. This clinic is taught by certified Triathlon Coaches with the guidance of a Running Coach. More information and registration is available HERE.

Ryan Back On The Trails

Earlier this month Denis Ryan competed in the 25km Trail Race as part 2011 Dirty Duo in North Vancouver BC. Denis' time of 2:26:11 was good for 9th place overall.

Get In The Marathon Spirit Tonight

The feature film "Spirit of the Marathon" is screening tonight 8pm in the INCO Innovation Center at MUN.

"It is the first film to capture the story, drama and ultimate essence of the legendary 26.2 mile running event. Filmed globally in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia, the movie brings together a diverse cast of amateur athletes and marathon luminaries. 

As the six unique stories unfold, each runner prepares for and ultimately faces the challenge of the Chicago Marathon. More than a sports movie, Spirit of the Marathon is an inspirational journey of perseverance and personal triumph; a spectacle that will be embraced by runners and non-runners alike. 

Spirit of the Marathon was the winner of both the Best Picture Award at the Mammoth Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award at the Chicago Film Festival. It is a great running story!"

Besides getting your money’s worth with a truly inspiring film, there is another great reason to attend! All proceeds from the showing will help establish scholarships for the cross-country running team at Memorial.

Butt Runs Texas

NL Runner Don Butt picks up his age group award after completing the Harlingen 10K in Texas Saturday morning.

Don ran a respectable 57:10 in spite of the high humidity and 80 degrees.

NL Running Calendar Grows A Bit

The NL Running Calendar has been spruced up a little and should help you with your training and racing plans. In addition to NLAA sanctioned events we list pretty much any running event we hear about throughout the province!

You will also find MultiSport events including the complete Triathlon NL series as well as Other Stuff like cycling events from BNL and other cross training opportunities.
