Paradise Figure 8 Results

70 runners took to the trails around Octagon Pond and Neil's Pond Saturday for the first running of the 8K Paradise Figure 8.

Rob Scheifley was first overall in 32:09 while Joan Hartery was first lady in 37:47.

Commander Gander Sunday

The Commander Gander 5k and 10k road race is tomorrow Sunday July 31 starting 8am.

You can register in person race morning 7am at St.Paul's Intermediate School on Magee Road.

Bell Island Blast Saturday August 20

The Bell Island Blast 10 mile road race has a couple of notable changes this year.

First and foremost the race moves to a new Saturday evening time slot set for Saturday August 20 starting 5pm. And there is the addition of a 1-mile race so the whole family and all your friends can take part!

Kids Of Steel Next Week Regatta Day

The St. John's Kids of Steel triathlon is only a week away set for Regatta Day morning in Bowring Park starting 9am. 200 kids from 5-14 years old get introduced to the sport with a short swim, bike and run in various age groups.

Things wrap up around 11am so there's plenty of day left to get down to the Lake, and note that IF THE REGATTA GETS POSTPONED SO DOES THE KOS.

Lake Placid Ironman Results

At least 6 NL Runners joined the "Ironman" ranks this weekend by completing Ironman Lake Placid.

Toby Colombe Memorial July 30

The 2nd Annual Toby Colombe 5k run or walk is Saturday July 30 in St. George's on the west coast.

Registration starts 1pm race day by the arena and the run starts 2pm. The route starts near Toby's home in Shallop Cove and ends at Blueberry Hill. Transportation wil be provided from registration to the start line. Fee is $10 youth (19 and under) and $15 adult with all funds supporting a tuition scholarship at Memorial University.

Toby was a very successful runner and triathlete from St. George's who died tragically in 2007. His family will be at the finish line to welcome finishers.

The Commander Gander 5K & 10K road races are set for Sunday July 31 starting 8am at St.Paul's Intermediate on Magee Road.

Trail Run Wednesday Rail Bed To Bowring Park

This week's Outfitter's Trail Run is an out and back along the rail bed from the Railway Museum to Bowring Park. Run starts 6:30pm Wednesday July 20. Route is approximately 10K and is shown HERE.

It's Tely 10 Week!

This Sunday July 24 will see the 84th running of the Tely 10 ten mile road race.

The week starts with a Race Kit Stuffing Party at the Curling Club on Bonaventure Avenue Wednesday from 7-8:30pm. If you are able to help out please enter your name HERE.

Race Kit Pick-up (and last chance to register) is Thursday from 7-8:30pm at the Curling Club. Kit pick-up will also be available Saturday from 2-5pm at the Curling Club. Volunteers are also needed for both kit pick-up sessions so please email athletics@nlaa.ca if you are available.

Baird Edges Dyke For Carbonear Victory

Jordan Baird just 30 odd seconds behind out of the water, passed Steve Dyke on the bike and held the lead to win yesterday's Carbonear Sprint Triathlon with a margin of 21 seconds in 56:17.


Victoria Ralph passed Katherine MacBay on the home stretch for first place lady in 1:08:44.

In support of the Children's Wish Foundation NL Chapter, the Arnold's Cove Fog Trot 10K will take place Saturday August 6 starting 10:30am.

100 Miles For Ryan

Michael Ryan continued his domination of endurance running with his recent completion of the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run.

Michael's time was 29 hours 3 minutes and 23 seconds, well under the 30-hour cut-off.

Paradise Figure 8 Saturday July 30

The Paradise Running Club will be hosting the Paradise Figure 8 8k race on Saturday July 30 starting 9am. This is the first annual race for the club and is part of the Paradise SunSplash weekend.

The race route will incorporate the groomed and scenic trails of Octagon Pond and Neil's Pond. Race starts at the Youth Community Center on McNamara Drive and finishes near Paradise Town Hall. Medals awarded to place and age-group winners. Prizes and give-aways at the finish line.

Fewer & Vaughan Win 8K - Record Set

Colin Fewer won Sunday morning's windy Mews 8K in 24:16 while Kate Vaughan was first among the women in 26:42 setting a course record in the process! There were 282 finishers and full results are HERE.

This Sunday's Mews 8K has a HUGE volunteer and marshal requirement due to tremendous growth of the race, and its center-city route.

Trail Run Wednesday Evening

This week’s Outfitters Trail Run is Cape Spear to North Head Wednesday evening July 6 starting from the Cape Spear parking lot at 6:30pm. This is an out and back trail so it can be as long or as short as you want to make it.

Huffin Puffin Marathon Registration Open

Registration is now open for the Huffin Puffin Marathon set for September 25 2011.

This years event also features the traditional Nautilus Half Marathon, and back by popular demand the Ekiden Marathon Team Relay where runners in teams of 4 each run a leg of the marathon course.
