As mentioned in our EARLIER POST both the men's and the women's teams scored BRONZE at the AUS Cross Country Championships last weekend. We posted a shot of the ladies and here are the men ...

AUS All-Stars McIlroy & Fewer

Exciting news from the AUS Cross-Country Champs in Fredericton, NB over the weekend. Rookie Jordan Fewer came 7th to earn AUS All-Star and top male finisher for Memorial. Caroline McIlroy was 2nd in the Women's 5k race and also earned All-Star Honours.

Both the men's and women's teams placed 3rd overall. Results are HERE.

Uniformed Services Run Results

The first annual Uniformed Services Run took place on a crisp and dry Sunday morning, just beating out the miserable weather system that set in on us later in the day yesterday. There were 91 finishers in the 10K with Peter Power capturing victory in 34:36 and first place women Adrienne Kaul in 40:56. Full results for the 10K are HERE.

The event also featured a 3K Family Fun Run/Walk, and a 1K Kids Race won by Ian Brown in 4:36 followed by second place Colin Murphy in 4:41 and third place Molly Pomeroy in 4:45.

Run Or Ride Grand Falls Windsor Sunday

The Corduroy Brook Trail Gazebo in Grand Falls Windsor is the starting location for the 2011 Spooky Spin Monster Mountain Bike Race and Terrible Trail Run this Sunday October 30.

On site registration starts 9am with races beginning at 10am.

Younghusband Runs Dresden Half

Lynda Younghusband ran the Dresden Half Marathon in Germany last week and in spite of a nagging injury came 4th in her age group in 2:29:08 (chip time 2:26:37).

Ian Ash Memorial Award For Art Meaney

Congratulations to the legendary Art Meaney who is the well-deserved winner of this year’s Ian Ash Memorial Award.

The award is presented annually by Athletics NorthEAST in conjunction with the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, in memory of Ian Ash who was a great contributor to the sport of running and to the community at large.

Handrigan Makes Marathon Debut

Grant Handrigan ran an impressive first marathon last week finishing the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2 hours 39 minutes 48 seconds for 36th place overall.

Freake & Dooling Win Cape To Cabot

Congratulations to all 335 finishers at Sunday's Cape To Cabot 20K, and to winners David Freake and Krissy Dooling. David was first overall in 76 minutes 59 seconds and Krissy was first female in 89:42.

Ultra For Pomeroy & Grant

Congratulations to Laura Pomeroy and Holly Grant on completing last week's Can Lake 50 at Canadaigua Lake in New York. With sunshine, no breeze, and temperatures pushing into the 80's, Holly tackled the 50-mile run in 9 hours 16 minutes followed by Laura in 9:48.

Cape To Cabot Expo This Weekend

The Scotiabank Cape to Cabot Health Expo is this Saturday October 15 from 1-5pm and Sunday October 16 from 10am-1pm in the gymnasium at MacDonald Drive Junior High School in St. John’s.

The Health Expo offers a chance for you to check out exhibits by healthy living related businesses and organisations such as The Outfitters (adventure gear and apparel), Core Insight (chiropractic, massage and acupuncture services), and The Arthritis Society. Bouncy castles will be on site to keep your little ones active while you browse and shop. A running shoe recycling station will be set up to take your donations of used running shoes.

On Saturday from 2-4pm you can take in inspiring presentations from Olympic gold medal curler Brad Gushue, sports nutritionist Holly Grant, veteran local runner Joe Ryan, and sports psychology expert Liam McErlean. Cape to Cabot runners can also pick up their race kits on Saturday afternoon.

Coleman's Half Marathon Results

60 runners took on the Coleman's Half Marathon Sunday morning in Corner Brook. First place went to Aubrey Sanders in 1:24:03 followed by Stephen Adams just 4 seconds later in 1:24:07 and Trent Burden in 1:26:44.

In the ladies division the winner was Michelle Mesh in 1:42:28 with second place to Roslynn Decker in 1:43:25 and third to Deila Young in 1:46:32.

Turkey Tea Podium Finishers

Full and final results for all 154 participants to follow but the podium finishers in this morning's Turkey Tea 10K were Colin Fewer 30:32, Adam Snow 32:57 and David Freake 33:13.

In the ladies field it was Andrea Morrissey 40:49, Janelle Simmons 41:13 and Sherri-Lynn Burden 41:28.

Busy Race Day Tomorrow

Sunday will be a busy day for NL Runners with 3 races on the calendar.

The Turkey Tea 10K in Mount Pearl starts 8am on Glencoe Drive; the Trapline Marathon is taking place in Happy Valley Goose Bay, Labrador; and the Coleman's Half Marathon will get underway 10am by the Greenwood Inn in Corner Brook.

Ian Ash Memorial Award

The 3rd Annual Ian Ash Memorial Award will be presented October 23 at the Active For Autism walk and run.

This award is presented annually by the Autism Society of NL in conjunction with Athletics NorthEAST "to an individual who has given selflessly to the sport of running and through it to the community at large - as did Ian."

Uniformed Services 10K Earlybird T-Shirts

The Uniformed Services 10K is Sunday October 30 starting in Bowring Park taking the former "Run For Canada" route down Waterford Bridge Road and back Southside Road.

The cut-off for t-shirt orders is tomorrow Thursday October 6 at midnight so CLICK HERE to sign up now.

Masters International Event Next August

The North and Central American, Caribbean and Canadian World Masters Track and Field Championships are set for Saint John New Brunswick next August. Masters athletes (35 years +) from rookies to veterans will compete in a variety of events including road and trail races, sprint and distance track races, and throwing and jumping field events.

Blueberry 10K Results

Perfect running conditions for the 75 participants in Harbour Grace for Sunday morning's Blueberry 10K road race! Cool but not too cold, with a little drizzle to keep things fresh! Kate Vaughan captured first place female in 35:31 while Jordan Fewer was first place male and overall in 33:39. Results are posted HERE.

The event also featured a 10K recreational walk, and a 3K run which had among its competitors dozens upon dozens of elementary school children.

Landslide Victory For McIlroy

The MUN Sea~Hawks cross country teams recently travelled to Wolfville, Nova Scotia to kick off their Atlantic University Sport season running in the Acadia Invitational.

Veteran runner and first year Sea~Hawk Caroline McIlroy won the overall 5K women's title in Acadia's debut as host, stopping the clock at 18 minutes, 15 seconds. In winning the event, McIlroy did what no other woman in recent history has done at Memorial. She outpaced the competition by 46 seconds.

Some of her teammates also had great finishes, leading Memorial to a 2nd place team finish on Saturday. Rookie Jordan Fewer, earned a top 10 finish in his first AUS meet and the men's team had an all-round solid 3rd place finish at the first meet of the year. (http://www.goseahawks.ca)
