National & International Performances

A great showing by NL athletes at Saturday's National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver.

Kate Vaughan (on her return from helping Canada to a 10th place finish at the Chiba Ekiden in Japan) landed 6th place in the Senior Women 7K in 26:18 and Jillian Forsey was 14th in the Junior Women 5K in 19:26.

Among the men Colin Fewer was 7th in the Senior Men 10K in 33:19 with Trevor O'Brien 20th in 34:29, Ryan Brockerville 27th in 35:09 and Mark Brophy 48th in 36:55. Liam Delaney was 117th in 30:05 in the Junior Men 8K.

Nautilus Runners Of The Year

The Nautilus Running Club held its Annual General Meeting last night and proudly named Paul Fewer, Alison Walsh and Ian Royle as Runners of the Year for 2011.

All three athletes were recognized for their solid participation and performance in local races, their overall commitment to running and to the club, and their international marathon performances.

Cross Country Nationals Tomorrow

Good luck to our gang competing in the Canadian National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver tomorrow.

Kate Vaughan will race the Senior Women 7K event; Jillian Forsey will race the Junior Women 5K; Colin Fewer, Ryan Brockerville and Mark Brophy are in the Senior Men 10K race; and Liam Delaney is in the 8K Junior field.

No Snow In Tallahassee

NL Runner Don Butt just finished an enjoyable 10K Turkey Trot in Tallahassee Florida. Don's time on the hilly, warm course was 59:10.

Cross Country Championships This Sunday

The NLAA is encouraging all members to take part in The Telegram Cross Country Championships this coming Sunday November 20.

Runners will enjoy the serene surroundings of GlenDenning Golf and of course the weather will be spectacular!  Online registration will remain open until Saturday morning 9am but register by midnight tomorrow Wednesday November 16 and save $20.

Hoddinott & Floods Run Markham Half

New York wasn't the only venue for NL Runners last week!

The Angus Glen Half Marathon in Markham Ontario saw Kristy Hoddinott (on the right) complete her first half (2:26:27), Paula Flood complete her second (2:53:15), and Dennis Flood finish third in his age category (1:42:03).

Jingle Bell Run This Sunday

The Jingle Bell Run in support of the Arthritis Society is this Sunday November 13 at 11am.

Rock n' Rollers In Savannah

A few NL Runners were in Georgia this weekend for the Savannah Marathon, part of the Rock n' Roll Marathon Series.

Paul Fewer led the charge in the marathon finishing in 2 hours 57 minutes 40 seconds for 33rd overall in a field of 4722 and 2nd in his age group. Next was Paul Matthews (3:15:47) then Betty McKenna (4:29:50).

Running the half marathon were Stephanie Young (2:14:44), Susan Matthews (2:14:59), and Doreen Shapter (2:21:14).

Nautilus Christmas Run December 9

The Nautilus Running Club invites all NL Runners to join them for a run, a beer, and a chat Friday December 9 5:30pm.

Run one way from the Aquarena to the Quidi Vidi Inn of Olde (5.8k route HERE), then enjoy a warm fire and a cold beer at the Inn. Tuck a few bucks in your sock for drinks and a taxi home.

This year's run will be commemorated with a long-sleeve technical running shirt complete with the "Nautilus Christmas Run" logo so if you're planning to participate and would like to get yourself a shirt CLICK HERE to order. Short notice for orders as the deadline is this coming Monday November 7.
