Cold & Sunny Boxing Day Run
Boxing Day saw very cold temperatures, no wind and lots of sunshine as 51 runners ran the 34th Annual Boxing Day Fun Run in Bowring Park.
Ian Browne (10:23) was first in the 2K followed by Peter Browne (10:25) and Molly Pomeroy (10:54). In the 4K it was Adam Fitzgearld (16:29), Tom Dunne (16:30) and Sheri Lynn Burden (16:50).

Three Locals Heading To Trinidad & Tobago
Athletics Canada has announced the Canadian team to compete in the North America Central American and Caribbean Cross Country Championships set for Trinidad and Tobago in March 2012.
Three Newfoundland runners have been named ... Jillian Forsey will compete in the Junior Women race, Kate Bazeley has been selected for the Senior Women team and Colin Fewer for the Senior Men. Selection is based on performances at the national cross-country championships held three weeks ago in Vancouver.

Paradise New Years Eve 5K
Again this year the Paradise Running Club is hosting a New Years Eve run in support of "Basics For Babies". Registration is 12:30pm December 31 at Kevin's No Frills on Topsail Road. Run starts 1pm from there ending at the Rotary Youth Center on McNamara Road. No fee to register but please bring along something for a baby!

Bonavista By d' Bays 16K (CANCELLED)
UPDATE APRIL 24 - THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
The 1st annual Bonavista By d' Bays 16K is set for Sunday May 27 2012. The 16K race starts 8:30am followed by a 7k fun run at 9am.
This event is in support of rebuilding efforts for the Cole Family who lost their uninsured home to a devastating fire earlier this year. Please consider helping the Coles rebuild their lives while enjoying a great run and the spectacular scenery that Bonavista offers.

2012 Calendar
The NL Running Calendar has been updated with tentative sanctioned road races for 2012 further to yesterday's NLAA Annual General Meeting.
Some noted and welcome additions are the Paradise 8K on July 28 brought to you by the Paradise Running Club, and the Coleman's Half Marathon October 14 (date to be confirmed) compliments of the Corner Brook Running Club.
Dates are not likely to change however the "official" calendar will be released by the NLAA in January.

Nautilus Inn Of Olde Run Tonight
The wind will die down for the Nautilus Quidi Vidi Inn Of Olde Christmas Run tonight. Meet at the lower level entrance of the Aquarena 5:30pm for a one way run to the Inn where you can enjoy a beer and a bowl of soup.
Note this is not an organized run, not a race, not supported. neither sanctioned nor insured ... just a regular run for the Nautilus gang and they'd be happy for you to join them.

NLAA Road Race Committee Chair
The Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) wishes to announce that the position of Chair of the Road Race Committee is open for election.
This is a 2-year term and any member in good standing can nominate another member. If you would like to put forth a name please email nlaaoffice@gmail.com.

St.John's Tri Call For Committee Members
The St.John's Triathlon will run for the 27th time on August 5 2012. With the departure of some long-standing committee members there are several vacant positions on the committee including Communications, Finance, and Kids of Steel among others.
Committee meetings are generally once a month for an hour or so. If you have an interest in triathlon and would like to give a little back to the tri community, please consider getting involved.

Cayman Islands Marathon & Half
Trent Burden was 4th overall in 3:17:49 at last week's Cayman Islands Marathon while Krissy Dooling was 4th female in 3:52:39.

Nautilus Christmas Run This Friday
If you're looking for a short run and a few laughs come join the Nautilus Running Club on their Quidi Vidi Christmas Run this Friday December 9 5:30pm.
Run one way from the Aquarena to the Quidi Vidi Inn of Olde (5.8k route HERE), then enjoy a warm fire, a hot bowl of soup, and a cold beer at the Inn.
Meet at the lower level Nautilus entrance at the Aquarena and tuck a few bucks in your sock for drinks and a taxi home.
