Worlds For Forsey

In what must be the most remarkable performance in a remarkable career, 19-year-old Jillian Forsey qualified yet again to represent Canada at two international championships.

Forsey, still a junior, opted to run in the senior women's race at the Canadian cross-country championships in Vancouver on Saturday. Running in snowy and muddy conditions Forsey finished in sixth place over the 8k course in a time of 29 minutes 40 seconds. This performance qualified her to represent Canada in the North American Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) cross-country championships in Colombia next February as well as the world cross-country championships in China in March. She will compete in the senior races in both events.

The Vancouver race was Forsey's first attempt at the 8k distance. The native of Kippens, who represented Canada in the junior NACAC championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014 as well as the world cross-country championships in Poland in 2013 and the world junior track and field championships in 2014, becomes the first Canadian woman to represent the nation in four consecutive NACAC cross-country championships and the only woman to represent Canada in her first senior year in recent memory.
