Miquelon Results

Congratulations to the huge field of NL Runners that took part in the Miquelon 25K Saturday. Out of 285 finishers the fist place female was Caroline McIlroy in 1:41:57 and first place male was Ken Myers in 1:26:57.

Caroline squeaked in under the wire to set a new course record, while many NL Runners took to the podium for age group victories including Will Fitzgerald (3rd overall), Peter Power, Ryan Brockerville, David McConkey, Sophie Gagnon, Darcy Hart, Karen Stacey, Christiane Martin, Fleur Kenward, Bill Aylward, Brian Mulcahy, Ann Angel, Donna Wadden, Astrid Peacock, Doot James, and Patsy Yetman. O'Grady & Brockerville Perform Again

A couple of excellent performances by two of our junior runners in Toronto last weekend.

Running in the OTFA national qualifier meet at York University Patrick O'Grady took three seconds off his previous best in the 1500 meters with a time of 4 minutes 9.68 seconds.

In the same meet, Ryan Brockerville took command of the 3000 meter steeplechase and won by seven seconds in a great time of 9 minutes 17.38 seconds.

Denis Ryan Strips Down

Denis Ryan from Marystown was the winner of the Tender Knee 12 km Trail Race in North Vancouver last week with a time of 55:41.

Denis ran the race in his underwear to promote the BC Cancer Foundation's 3rd annual Underwear Affair. The Underwear Affair is a 10k run/5k walk which raises funds for research on "below the waist" cancers.

26.2 Hot Miles In San Pedro

Tim Turner battled temperatures hitting 34 degrees Celsius last Saturday finishing the San Pedro California Palos Verdes Marathon in 4:17:47.

Ironman Florida 70.3 Finishers

Congratulations to the handful of NL Runners in Florida last weekend for the Ironman Florida 70.3 which included a 1.9k swim, 90k bike and 21.1k run.

Andreas Doerig (6:2631), Joe Kearsey (7:11:40) and Ginny Doerig (7:37:09) all finished the event, while Jeff Glynn had to pull out after the bike leg due to a recurring hip injury.

Handrigan 14th At Times Colonist 10K

In a field of almost 11,000 runners Grant Handrigan finished 14th overall at the Victoria Times Colonist 10K April 27, 17 seconds faster than his 2007 performance.

Prague Marathon This Sunday

Steeplechase Record For Brockerville

Ryan Brockerville recently broke the provincial junior steeplechase record that has stood for 27 years. On the weekend of April 17-18 Ryan competed in a track and field meet in Walnut, California and placed 8th in a time of 9:11:48 for a personal best by 19 seconds.

The provincial record of 9:24:32 held by Jeff Collingwood was set back in 1981 at the Canada Summer Games in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Add to the list of Ottawa runners Lisa McGrath, Mabel Nash and Donna Anne Wadden. All are doing the Half and it's the first one for Lisa and Mabel. Thanks to Steve Butler for the info.

Susan Myrden, Laura Feltham and Gord Nash are doing the Bluenose Half Marathon in Halifax May 18th.


And Steve Morrisey is running the MDS Nordian 10K in Ottawa May 24 following his half marathon appearance at the Sudbury Rocks Run For Diabetes May 4.


Phelan 2nd At Ironman China

After an injury-plagued 5 years, Donna Phelan has made a spectacular return to the Ironman distance with a 2nd place finish last Sunday at Ironman China.

Grant Off To The Races Again

Grant Handrigan is off to a flying start again this season. He finished the Vancouver Sun Run 10K yesterday in 32:00:05 for an amazing 32nd place out of 59,179 runners!

Next week Grant will tackle the Victoria Times Colonist 10K.

Weekend Marathon Coverage

Tune in to Rogers Cable Channel 22 next Monday for Boston Marathon coverage starting with a preview show 9:30am our time followed by 6 hours of live coverage from 10:30am.

And the Women's Olympic Marathon Trials will be streamed live HERE starting 9:30am Sunday.
