Santa Shuffle This Saturday

Run For Canada Returns In 2008!

The Hbc Run For Canada made its Newfoundland debut last year and will be back again on July 1 2008. Event includes a 10K road race, 1k kids run and a 3k family walk.

Details and online sign-up for participants and volunteers will be available early in the new year. In the meantime to get on the volunteer list early just drop a line to glenn@nlrunning.com .

Canadian Cross Country Championships

This weekend the AGSI Canadian Cross Country Championships are taking place in Guelph. Patrick O'Grady and Ryan Brockerville will run in the Junior Mens event while Grant Handrigan runs in Senior Mens.

Disney World Marathon

Good luck to NL Runners traveling to Florida for the January 13 Walt Disney World Marathon ... Sharon Brophy, Barbara Ivany, Donna Ann Wadden, Brenda Kitchen, Paul Blackwood, John Curran and Marlene Curran.

Nautilus Inn Of Olde Christmas Dash

For those of you that took part last year, you KNOW this is one run you DON'T want to miss! The Nautilus Running Club invites all NL Runners to join them for a run, a beer, and a chat Friday December 14 5:30pm.

Run one way from the Aquarena to the Quidi Vidi Inn of Olde (5.8k route HERE), then enjoy a warm fire and a cold beer at the Inn. Tuck a few bucks in your sock for drinks and a taxi home.

Charleston Gobble Wobble

Don Butt from Carbonear will be running the 5K Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble in Charleston, South Carolina on Thursday. Don is vacationing there with his lovely wife Barb.

Toby Colombe Memorial Service

The memorial service for Toby Colombe will be 7 pm this Thursday November 22 at the MUN Chapel (Building 29 on THIS MAP - parking available in Area 22).

Following the service there will be a gathering at Bitters Pub.

Out Of Province Cross Country Action

The video below shows Ryan Brockerville helping Simon Fraser University capture 4th place out of 28 teams at the NAIA Championships in Kenosha Wisconsin last Saturday.

Also two Mercury Athletics runners competed in the Ontario cross-country championships in Brockville last weekend. Patrick O'Grady finished 28th in the 8k junior men's race in 27:41 while in the senior men's 10k, Mark Brophy finished 37th in 36:25.

Rest In Peace Toby

Our community suffered a tragic loss yesterday with the passing of Toby Colombe who succumbed to injuries following a traffic accident in Bermuda.

Toby is from the west coast, trained and competed while studying at MUN, and has been teaching at Mount Saint Agnes Academy in Bermuda for the last few years. His permanent smile and good nature had a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Craig Alexander Interview

Craig Alexander won the inaugural Newfoundland Ironman 70.3 in July, and captured 2nd place at the World Ironman Championships in Kona last month finishing the day with a 2:45 marathon.

MS Victory Tour Finishes Sunday

Robert Bertolas is finishing his 10,000km trek across Canada in St.John's this Sunday November 18. His running, roller blading and biking journey has been raising awareness and funds to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

Robert will run the final leg of his Victory Tour Sunday afternoon and he wants some company! Join him in the Bowring Park east parking lot off Waterford Bridge Road 12:30pm for the 4.5km run to City Hall. Greetings from the Mayor and reception to follow.

Candace O'Regan Ran Athens Too

Further to LAST WEEK'S POST, Candace O'Regan also completed the Athens Marathon with Joe Ryan and Irene Barry.

McConkey Part Time NL Runner

Dave McConkey hails from Peterborough but spends as much time as possible at his summer residence on Change Islands.

While Dave has several distance events under his belt including last week's New York Marathon (3:27:36), he prefers the more adventurous trail events such as the Canadian Death Race, the Haliburton Forest 100 Miler, the Yukon River Trail Marathon and the Iceland 55K Trail Run.

In 2005 Dave was inducted into the Peterborough Sports Hall of Fame.

Ironman 70.3 World Championship

Congratulations to Flora Seymour and Jason Pretty on their completion of Saturday's Ironman 70.3 World Championship event in Clearwater Florida. Jason finished in 4:53:15 while Flora crossed in 5:46:31.

Fifth For Brockerville

Ryan Brockerville from Marystown finished 5th at the NAIA Pacific Regional Cross Country Championships last Saturday running 8k in 25:35. Next performance is at the NAIA Finals in Kenosha, Wisconsin November 15th.

Cape Breton Fiddlers Run

Last week a couple of our west coast NL Runners completed the marathon at the Cape Breton Fiddlers Run. Congratulations to Darren Stone on his second place finish in 2:54:11, and also to Kimberley Stone on her 4:14:06 finish.
