Hypothermic Half Marathon This Sunday

With temperatures hovering around zero for the next few days, this Sunday's Half Marathon may not be too "hypothermic" after all!

You can still REGISTER ONLINE or if you're not running drop by the Running Room Churchill Square tonight (Thursday) at 7 pm to see how you can help out on race day.

A Little Red?

Beer and wine can increase "good" and prevent "bad" cholesterol, provide antioxidants and protein, and decrease blood pressure among other benefits. Drink in moderation though, and watch it on those longer runs when hydration becomes a factor.

Nordic Sprint Series Starts Thursday

The Nordic Sprint Series is a biweekly cross country ski series for men, women and children of all ages. The races will take place every second Thursday at the Pippy Park Nordic Centre ... meet at the North Bank Lodge 6:30pm.

Races are open to all members of the Avalon Nordic Ski Club. Cost is $10 for the series or $2 per race. Pre-register at The Outfitters 220 Water Street and find more information HERE.

Podium For Brophy In Disney

Way to go Sharon Brophy on her Disney World Marathon 1st place age group finish in 3:23:41.

Sharon shared the field yesterday with NL Runners Paul Blackwood (4:23:31), John Curran (4:53:29), Marlene Curran (4:53:29), Brenda Kitchen (6:23:06), Donna Wadden (6:24:40) and Barb Ivany (6:34:32).

A Friend In Beantown

Bostonian Steve Paone has visited Newfoundland several times, ran the Tely in 2003, and has 23 Boston Marathons under his belt!

In return for the Newfoundland hospitality he's enjoyed over the years, Steve is offering 4 or 5 nights free accommodations and a few meals for 1 or 2 NL Runners planning to run the Boston Marathon on April 21 2008.

St.John's Triathlon August 10

Sunday August 10 is the date for the 2008 St.John's Triathlon. Mark your calendar and start your training for one of the best events you'll ever do!

The organizing committee has lost several members due to work commitments and out-of-province moves. If you'd like to help and can spare a couple of hours a month please let us know at admin@nlrunning.com. We'll pass your name on to the committee and notify you about the next meeting.

Tis The Season

Following their Boxing Day run Joe Ryan's running group "Friends on the Run" donated $150 plus a quantity of items including caps, socks, mitts, scarves and toiletries to the Naomi Center in St.John's, a 24-hour emergency shelter for females aged 16 to 30.
