Vaughan 12th At National X-Country

Kate Vaughan ran 26:55 over 7k at the National Cross Country Championships in Guelph on Saturday claiming 12th place in the Senior Women's race.

Colin Fewer was 22nd in the Senior Men's 10K in 32:57, Grant Handrigan was 63rd in 35:00, and Michael King ran 36:15 for 76th place. Unfortunately Patrick O'Grady lost a shoe off the start and was unable to finish.

Liam Delaney ran the 8k Junior Men's and finished in 30:10 for 146th place.

Podium For O'Neill In Abu Dhabi

Noreen O'Neill was 1st Place Masters Woman at a half marathon in Abu Dhabi last weekend. She ran the 21.1k in 2:06:26.

Nautilus Inn of Olde Christmas Dash

It's almost that time again! The Nautilus Running Club invites all NL Runners to join them for a run, a beer, and a chat on Friday December 12 at 5:30pm.

Run one way from the Aquarena to the Quidi Vidi Inn of Olde (5.8k route HERE), enjoy a warm fire, a cold beer and a bowl of soup at the Inn.

2010 Olympic Torch Relay

Leading up to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch Relay will cross Canada hitting 41 communities in Newfoundland & Labrador early November 2009. Read more HERE.

Last night at the Nautilus Running Club AGM Karen Stacey and Tony Young were selected as the Nautilus Runners Of The Year for 2008.

Recipients are selected based on race performances, participation, and overall commitment to the club and the sport.

Boston Offers 1 Minute 59 Seconds Grace

Boston Qualifying Times offer 59 seconds grace for anyone applying online. But apparently if you apply on paper the grace margin is increased to 1 minute and 59 seconds!

After several unsuccessful attempts to hit the 35-39 qualifying time of 3 hours 15 minutes, Jennifer McCreath was informed today that a 3:16:59 run in July will be accepted as a qualifier.

So if you are less than 2 minutes off your qualifying time get the pen out and apply in writing!

Joints In Motion Destinations

The Arthritis Society has announced its Joints In Motion Destinations for next year including Australia, Italy, California, Costa Rica and Barbados.

Ski Swap This Weekend

The Avalon Nordic Ski Club is presenting a ski swap and sale at the Outfitters Outdoor Store this weekend November 22 & 23.

This is a great opportunity to get some good used equipment or to sell the stuff you've outgrown. A percentage of sales is donated back to the ski club.

Club members will be present to offer equipment advice and information about membership and programs.

Fewer & O'Grady Going To Nationals

ANE's Colin Fewer finished 9th at the Ontario Cross Country Championship in Toronto on Sunday. He covered the muddy and windy 10k course in 35:29.

MUN XC Runner Patrick O'Grady was 16th in the Junior Race, running 32:21 on the 8k route.

Both runners are headed to the Canadian National Cross Country Championship in Guelph on 29 November.

Congrats to Tony Poole on running a personal best 3:27:15 marathon in San Antonio yesterday.

Santa Shuffle Saturday December 6

The Santa Shuffle Fun Run and Elf Walk for the Salvation Army is Saturday December 6. Run is 5k and walk is 1k with both starting 10am at MUN Hatcher House.

Ryan Leading BC X-Country Series

Denis Ryan from Marystown was the winner of the Open Cross Country Race held on Remembrance Day in Vancouver's Stanley Park. Denis covered the 8K course in 28:33 - good for a PR.

This race is part of the BC Lower Mainland Cross Country Series which is a series of 8 cross country races held from Sept to December. Athletes are scored on the best five races in the series. Denis is currently in 1st place for his age group after 6 races.

Richmond Results

Congratulations to the gang that ran the Richmond Marathon and Half yesterday.

Finishing the full were Joan Hartery 3:53:05, Yvonne Martin 3:53:51, Bas Kavanagh 4:00:07, Holly Grant 4:00:50, Blaine Pearce 4:03:53, Weldon Chafe 4:10:34, Sherry Grewal 4:22:24, Geoff Budden 4:28:50 and Ann Chafe 4:41:05. Will Small completed the half in 1:46:47.

C2C New Landscape

Paul Lahey captured this image of how the Cape To Cabot start may look next year now that we are a "have" province and Ontario is a "have not".

Corner Brook Tri Returning?

Good sources are indicating that the traditional Corner Brook Triathlon will return in 2009.

With a long history including almost 10 years as an ITU event, this Olympic distance race was off the calendar for the last 2 years in favor of the now defunct 70.3 Ironman Newfoundland.

Another Stage For Ann Marie

Local runner, triathlete, mountain climber, and host of the annual Oliver's Pond Sprint Ann Marie Lane can be seen running around the stage at the Arts & Culture Center in St.John's this week.

She has a role in the production "South Pacific" which runs until November 15.

One week after Cape to Cabot, Joan Hartery (1:57:23) and Steve Delaney (2:03:05) tackled another hilly run.

The Grape Run is a half marathon jaunt through the Constantia Vineyards near Cape Town, South Africa.

Good luck to Tony Poole who's off to Texas for the Rock n' Roll San Antonio Marathon this Sunday November 16.

Richmond Marathon This Weekend

Good luck to the NL Runners heading to Virginia for the Richmond Marathon and Half Marathon this weekend.

Holly Grant, Ann Chafe, Sherry Grewal, Joan Hartery, Blaine Pearce, Weldon Chafe, Geoff Budden, Ken Reid, Yvonne Martin and Bas Kavanagh are signed up for the full while Will Small will tackle the half.

Brockerville Third In Washington

At the regional NAIA qualifying cross country meet at the University of Washington Ryan Brockerville finished third over the muddy 8k course with a time of 25 minutes 41 seconds. Brockerville's Simon Fraser University team finished second in the event.

70.3 World Championship Results

Congratulations to the NL Runners at yesterday's Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Florida.

Finishing the 1.9k swim, 90k bike ride and 21.1k run were Andre Engelbrecht (5:15:44), Keith Holden (5:30:39), Jim Gosse (5:38:23), Kim Larouche (5:31:56), Kevin Flynn (5:47:42) and Rebecca Long (5:49:44).

St.John's Tri Bike Course Re-Paved

The St.John's Triathlon will feature a much improved bike course in 2009 with sights like this one a thing of the past. Most of Bennett's Road and Old Broad Cove Road as well as sections of Portugal Cove Road have been completely re-surfaced.

Online registration for the 25th Annual Event will open early in the new year.

BNL AGM Thursday Night

The Annual General Meeting for Bicycle Newfoundland and Labrador is 7pm this Thursday November 6th at the Mount Pearl soccer hut in the Smallwood Rec Plex off Smallwood Drive.

Voting positions up for nomination include President and VP Road. Also seeking representatives for the West Coast, Central and Labrador regions, and a Mountain Bike Committee.
