Dennis Flood finished first in his age group in 24:04 while Paula Flood captured age group 3rd in 40:44 at the Cocoa Beach Fall Into Winter 5K in Florida Saturday.

Coleman's Half Marathon Results

Dean Alyward won Sunday's Coleman's Half Marathon in Corner Brook in a time of 1:15:54. First in the ladies was Amanda Bull in 1:43:03.

Coaching Education Courses - FREE!

A series of Coaching Education courses are being offered across the province free of charge over the next couple of months. You can pick and choose from several topics and sessions to suit your needs and interest.

Next Tuesday October 26 there is a session on "Making Ethical Decisions". Session runs from 6:30-9:30pm at the Swiler's Multi-Purpose Room on Crosbie Road in St.John's. This course is required for certification in many disciplines.

Another Ultra For Ryan

Michael Ryan ran the Broadway Ultra Society Trail Mix-up 6 hour run on September 26 in Queens NY covering 37 miles to place 5th overall. And this past Saturday he ran the Tussey MountainBack 50 Miler in 9:01:01.

Finishing 3rd place overall and 1st place in his age group, Michael has now completed all 7 races in the 2010 New York Ultra Running Grand Prix Series.

Cape To Cabot Results

Congratulations to all 329 finishers at this morning's Cape To Cabot 20kTrevor O'Brien led the field the whole way finishing in 1:16:50. Aaron Power was second in 1:23:09 followed by Don Fagan taking the bronze in 1:27:41.

First for the ladies was Susan Martyn in 1:40:22 followed by Karen Penwell in 1:41:37 and Susan Hunt in 1:43:02.

If you're not running this Sunday's Cape To Cabot be sure to come out and cheer on the 400 or so runners tackling the 20k run from Cape Spear to Cabot Tower. Race starts 8am.

Nash, Handrigan & Pardy Run The Valley

Last weekend at the Valley Harvest Half Marathon in Wolfville Nova Scotia, Grant Handrigan came 3rd overall with a time of 1:16:51 while Kevin Pardy placed 2nd in the 70 plus category in 2:08:01.

Gord Nash ran the marathon in 3:42:12.

Tis The Season For Running Away!

This Sunday we will have 17 runners at the Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon in San Francisco. The race is a fundraiser for Leukemia Lymphoma and the finishers medal is a Tiffany necklace presented on a silver platter by tuxedo dressed San Fran firefighters!

Runners in the group (pictured) include Heather Pitcher, Treena Cook, Donna Wadden, Kelly Coutts, Anglea Coutts, TJ Cook, CJ Radford, Michelle Murray, Joan McCarthy, Glenda Godwin, Elizabeth Adams, Nadine Adams, Janette Kelly, MIranda Goss, Nancy Clarke, Sherry Cheema and Maureen Kenny.

Also this Sunday many NL Runners are heading to the Toronto Marathon. Among them are Cynthia Ryan, Marie Baggs, Betty Gill, Linda Hensman, Alice Kennedy, April Mahoney, Betty McKenna, Donna Power and Judy Sheppard. Lynda Younghusband, Patsy Yetman, Eileen Collingwood and Rosemary (Doot) James are doing the half.

Cross-Country Championships November 21

The NLAA 2010 Provincial Cross-Country Running Championships are set for Sunday November 21 at GlenDenning Golf in St. John's.

Hundreds of athletes from schools and running clubs around the province will gather to take part in individual and team competition from bantam to masters. More information and registration will be available in the coming days.

Resolution Run December 31

This year's Resolution Run will be on New Years Eve Friday December 31 starting 5pm.

Registration is just $45 until October 15 (this Friday!) and includes a water resistant soft shell reflective running jacket.

Turkey Tea Results & Pictures

106 runners finished yesterday's Turkey Tea 10K with John Angelopoulos capturing first place in 33 minutes 25 seconds. First place female was Karen Stacey in 37:12.

Victoria BC Marathon Results

Among the NL Runners completing Sunday's Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon in British Columbia were Holly Grant (3:22:16), Geoff Budden (3:56:14) and Gail Simms (4:03:55).

Arthur Smith finished the Half in 1:49:45.

Ian Ash Memorial Award

The 2nd Annual Ian Ash Memorial Award will be presented October 24 at the Active For Autism walk and run.

The award is to be "presented to an individual who has given selflessly to the sport of running and through it to the community at large - as did Ian."

If you'd like to nominate someone for this award please submit names to john.ryan@mi.mun.ca by October 18 along with a brief resume of the nominee.

The Team NLAA Selection has been made for the upcoming Timex 10K National Road Race Championship.

Kate Vaughan, Abigail Steel, Michael King and David Freake will be travelling to Toronto for the October 16 finale.

Results From Labrador Trapline


Congratulations to Tony Poole (3:17:54) and Elizabeth Rose (3:50:43) on their victories at yesterday's Trapline Marathon in Labrador.

In the Half Marathon Jonathon Collins was first in 1:24:57 with Courtney Sparkes first lady in 1:43:43. And 10K winners were Brad Pye (41:09) and Pamela Duffett (48:03).

If you haven't yet registered for tomorrow's Turkey Tea 10K road race, late registration is available tonight Saturday October 9 from 5-7pm at New World Fitness 644 Topsail Road.

Race starts 8:30am tomorrow Sunday at the intersection of Glencoe Drive and Kyle Avenue in Donovan's Industrial Park.

Recycle Your Running Shoes

As part of their Green Race initiative, organizers of the Cape To Cabot road race are collecting used but re-useable sneakers for donation to the Association For New Canadians.

If you have half-decent running shoes that you're willing to part with, please drop them off at MacDonald Drive Junior High next Saturday October 16 from 1-5pm.
