Pardy & Mesh Do T.O. Too

Jeannie Pardy and Michelle Mesh, both from Appleton, also finished the ScotiaBank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Sunday past. Jeannie ran in 3:40 while Michelle was 4:01.

Back To Back Marathons For McCreath

Congratulations to Jennifer McCreath on completing TWO marathons in TWO countries last weekend. 3:50:05 in Akron Ohio on Saturday and 3:42:26 at the Toronto Waterfront on Sunday.

Michael Ryan from Marystown also completed Toronto, finishing in 3 hours 53 minutes. Michael will be running the upcoming New York City Marathon to raise funds for Hole In The Wall Camps, a family of camps for children with serious illnesses.

O'Grady, Ralph Impress At SMU

18 year old Patrick O'Grady made an impressive debut for the Memorial Cross Country Team at the St. Mary's University Meet in Halifax last Saturday. He finished 9th (25:27) in a large and strong Atlantic Division field that raced 7.5km.

Another rookie, Victoria Ralph, led the MUN Women with 13th place (20:19) in the Womens 5km event.

Both Patrick and Victoria were named MUN Athletes of the Week.

Turkey Tea 10K This Sunday

The Turkey Tea 10K road race is this Sunday October 5. Race starts 8:30am in Mount Pearl at the intersection of Glencoe Drive and Dundee Avenue.

Register this Thursday October 2 from 6-9pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road.

Online registration for the September 13 2009 Ironman 70.3 Muskoka opens this Friday September 26 at 9:30am NST.

"Run For One Planet" Hits St.John's

Thanks to all who greeted Matt and Stephanie upon their arrival in St.John's yesterday.

Their afternoon started with NTV reporter Jodi Cooke meeting them on the highway and shooting a story for last night's NTV News. They are pictured here front and center leaving the Aquarena en route to the Running Room where the group doubled in size and they took a few minutes to address the crowd. Finally all converged on City Hall for a welcome from Councilor Tom Hann and a photo shoot for The Telegram.

Matt and Stephanie will rest up for a few days before continuing their 1 year journey around North America raising funds and awareness for positive environmental action.

Mitchelmore First For Ladies At Bob's Half

Rhonda Mitchelmore joined Dean Alyward on the podium last week at Bob's Half Marathon in Corner Brook. Rhonda was the first lady across the line in 1:44:28.

RF1P Wednesday 5:30pm

Further to LAST WEEK'S POST, Matt and Stephanie will arrive at The Aquarena 5:30pm Wednesday where local runners will escort them to City Hall ... the more the merrier!

They are finishing the cross-Canada segment of their 18,000km run around North America promoting positive environmental action. And they are running a MARATHON EVERY DAY!

In the event of a picket line at The Aquarena, meeting place will move to the main entrance of the Arts & Culture Center.

Brockerville & Howard Race Washington

Ryan Brockerville continued to show his early season cross country form by finishing third at Saturday's University of Washington Sundodger Open Cross-Country Meet in Seattle. The Marystown native finished the 8k course in 24:55 leading his Simon Fraser team to a third place finish.

800 metre specialist Julia Howard finished 16th in the Women's 6k Invitational race. Her time was 21:18.

Alyward Wins Bob's Half Marathon

Dean Alyward was first among 64 finishers to win Bob's Half Marathon yesterday in 1:14:51.

This Corner Brook event gets bigger every year and this year runners enjoyed chip timing and a certified course.

Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait left Vancouver May 4 on an 18,000km journey around North America running a marathon EVERY DAY! They will arrive in St.John's Wednesday September 24 and stay for a few days promoting environmental action. Visit www.runforoneplanet.com for more information.

Local Bicycle Segments On CBC TV

Next Monday September 22 at 3:30pm Living NL will run a segment on bicycle clothing featuring our friends from Canary Cycles. And on Wednesday September 24 at 3:30pm (rebroadcast 7pm) the show will cover bicycle accessories including cool commuting aids.

Congratulations to Helen Couves on her completion of the Reykjavik Marathon in Iceland last month.

Bell Island Blast - Bike Or Run Or Both

This Saturday September 20 Athletics NorthEAST (ANE) is holding a "Trial Run" of the Bell Island Blast. Any and all are welcome to this fun bike/run event however please note there will be NO SUPPORT provided ... bring your own water, snacks, etc.

The 30K bike will start at approximately 9:10am (take the 8:20 ferry) and the 15K run will start 11:20ish (take the 10:40 ferry). Both events start at St. Michael's High School where there will also be access to showers. Bring a few bucks too as there are at least a couple of very good Fish & Chips shops in the area.

Marathon & Half Marathon Top 5

As posted below we await times and full results for the Provincial Marathon and Half Marathon. In the Marathon first place honors go to Edward Durnford and Angelique Myles. First in the Half Marathon were Fabien Basset and Karen Martin.

Clarke Another 70.3 Finisher

Transplanted NL Runner Terry Clarke completed the Ironman 70.3 Muskoka as well. Terry's time was 6:18:18.

Dyke 12th In Muskoka

Ironman 70.3 Muskoka was this past weekend and at least four five NL Runners took part. Stephen Dyke raced in the Pro Division placing 12th overall with a time of 4:40:16.

Dyke was followed by Jeff Holmes (5:26:38), Deanne Hiscock (6:00:49) and Phil Graham (7:33:34). Full results are HERE.

Beazley Runs Maui

While we enjoyed excellent conditions yesterday for our Marathon and Half Marathon, Guy Beazley was enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery at the Maui Marathon in Hawaii.

Guy ran 3:35:29 for 7th place in his division.

Newfoundland Ironman 70.3 Finished

CORNER BROOK — Wreckhouse Entertainment Inc. pulled the plug on the Newfoundland Ironman 70.3 triathlon event Wednesday after its second annual race failed to draw enough athletes to demonstrate long-term viability.

Wreckhouse, a not-for-profit company, operated the long-distance triathlon event in July 2007 and 2008 under a formal licensing agreement with World Triathlon Corporation.

Additional Spots For Ironman Canada

The deadline for activation of the entry certificates claimed at registration for the 2009 Subaru Ironman Canada has passed and due to the lower than expected number of athletes that activated their certificates, North America Sports will be offering a limited number of additional slots.

The slots will be available through the race website beginning on Thursday September 11th at 2:30pm Newfoundland time. Demand for these slots will be high so interested athletes should go to the website early.

This Sunday morning there will be a bus to take runners from Bowring Park to the Reid Center for the start of the Marathon and Half Marathon.

Bus will leave the gravel parking lot off Park Road at 6:45am.

Marathon & Half Marathon This Sunday

The Provincial Marathon & Half Marathon is this Sunday September 14 starting 7:30am from the Reid Center in Mount Pearl.

Race Kit pickup and last chances to register are Thursday night 6-9pm and Saturday afternoon 1-4pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road.

LeDrew Does Monaco 70.3

Following his recent appearance in the St.John's Triathlon, legendary west coast athlete Scott LeDrew competed in the Monaco Ironman 70.3 last weekend.

Scott completed the 1.9k swim in 29:57, the 90k bike in 3:13:24 and the 21.1k run in 1:49:31 for a total time of 5:41:23.

Bluathletes

In what will likely become a tradition, several members of the Nautilus Running Club did the "Bluathlon" last weekend.

This 4-stage event included a 110k bike ride to Carbonear on Saturday, an evening of food and refreshments, the Blueberry 10K race Sunday morning, and the return ride back to St.John's.

Dawe Completes Ironman Wisconsin

Congratulations to Paul Dawe on completing Ironman Wisconsin this past weekend.

Paul conquered the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run in 14 hours, 45 minutes and 26 seconds.

McIlroy, O'Grady Blueberry Champs

Patrick O'Grady was the first across the line at yesterday's Blueberry Harvest 10K in Harbour Grace, while Caroline McIlroy was first for the ladies. The 25th anniversary event saw a record turnout of over 180 runners. Results will soon be posted HERE.

Bob's Half Marathon Now Certified

Marathon Just 2 Weeks Away

The Nautilus Provincial Marathon and Half Marathon is Sunday September 14. As usual there are many volunteers needed for this event from Water Station Attendants to Course Marshals to Finish Line Assistants.

Ski Training Course Starts This Saturday

As summer comes to a close cross country skiers are eagerly awaiting the first snow fall.

The Avalon Nordic Ski Club's Challenge Group, a cross country ski training group for youth 13 and over, starts this Saturday September 6. Training includes running, hiking, ski striding with poles, strength training, stretching, rollerskiing and other fun stuff before moving onto skis. No prior skiing experience necessary.
