Is Your Town "Road Race Friendly"?

In just a few weeks the road race season will start and practically every Sunday morning large groups of runners will converge on various locations and take to the streets to test their mettle.

One of the challenges for race organizers is dealing with municipalities to ensure safety and security for runners while not infringing on the rights of residents. Issues such as permits, signage, road closures, start times, course marshals, notices to neighbors, pylons, barricades, etc. are common to all races. A set of rules or standards as a guideline would be helpful to all.

Please leave a comment below if you have any suggestions for improvements to the races in your town or city. Share a story about how your municipality welcomes and accommodates runners, or share ideas on how they can be more "road race friendly".
