RCAF Gander Race Results
More than a hundred runners took part in the RCAF races in Gander last weekend.
Jonathan Gallant won the 5K in 21:45 with Cassandra Sweetapple claiming the ladies victory in 25:42. In the 10K it was Mike Dwyer in 41:00 and Nicole Pinkston in 51:39. And the Half Marathon was won by Owen Fifield in 1:18:52 and Noleen King in 1:39:20.

Snow & Fewer Outstanding In Ottawa
Two NL Runners had outstanding performances at the Ottawa Race Weekend this past Saturday evening.
In the 5k Adam Snow finished 4th in a time of 15 minutes 52.6 seconds, winning the 30-34 age division. In the 10k Colin Fewer was 14th (4th Canadian) in 31 minutes 46.7 seconds. Both races had fields of more than 3000 runners.

Pacers Duathlon This Weekend
The Athletics NorthEAST/MUN Pacers Duathlon is this Sunday June 3 in the Ruby Line / Back Line area of The Goulds. Participants will run 4.7k, bike 18k, and finish with a repeat of the run.
This is a Triathlon Newfoundland and Labrador sanctioned event open to members 15 years and older. You will need your TriNL membership renewed for 2012 so CLICK HERE to get that done now.

It was a sunny and cool Sunday morning for yesterday's Not So Hilly Half Marathon. Peter Power won overall in 74 minutes 17 seconds with Kate Vaughan first among the ladies in 81:38. Results for all 169 finishers are HERE.

Corner Brook Sun Run June 2
The 8 km Arthur James Sun Run is Saturday June 2 in Corner Brook. Registration starts 9am at the Griffin Drive parking area with the race starting 10am. There will also be children’s 1km and 2.5km events starting just after 10am.

Water Warming In Paradise
You may recall the 2011 Paradise Triathlon became a duathlon because the water was only 10 degrees. Last Saturday the pond temperature hit 16 degrees with still 4 more weeks of warming ahead!
The 2012 event is Sunday June 24 and you should REGISTER NOW because the price goes up on June 1.

Today is the final day to register for Sunday's Not So Hilly Half Marathon.
And note that due to construction on Smallwood Drive there has been a minor adjustment to the course. There will be an additional loop off of Old Placentia Road into Emerald Drive, and the finish will now be on Emberly Place, off Commonwealth Avenue.

Record Holder Trained On Tely Route
In 1975 Jerome Drayton set the Canadian Marathon record of 2:10:09 (December 7 in Fukuoka, Japan), a mark that has now stood for almost 37 years.
Two years earlier in 1973 Drayton ran 2:13:27 in the Canadian Marathon Championships right here St. John's! The course was an out and back following the Tely 10 route.

Win For Forsey; Record For Brockerville
Ryan Brockerville set a new Great Northwest Athletic Conference record in the steeplechase Saturday winning the conference title with a time of 8:56.13. It was a personal best time for Brockerville, breaking the old GNAC record of 9:02.79. Read more HERE.
Meanwhile the same day Jillian Forsey had quite the performance at the Nike High School National Athletics meet in Toronto. Running for Stephenville High School Jillian won the 1500 metres in 4:46.85 then followed up with a win in the 800 metres in 2:25.64.

Walsh and Freake Win Harbour Front
There were many happy runners skipping along in the rain at Sunday morning's Nautilus Harbour Front 10K.
Alison Walsh won the ladies competition in 38:13 while David Freake was first place overall in 33:28.

Huffin' Puffin Registration Now Open
Registration for the September 23 2012 Huffin' Puffin Marathon in now open.
In addition to the traditional Full Marathon and Half Marathon, this year sees the return of the very popular Ekiden Marathon Team Relay with 4 runners each taking on a 10k-11k leg to complete the 42.2k marathon course as a team.
Note that there are two separate registration links available, one for the Individual Full and Half Marathon, and one for the Marathon Team Relay.
Relay runners take note that teams have to have 4 runners, andwhen you register you will first be asked to enter your "Team" which is actually your "Club" (if you're not in a club select "Unattached" from the dropdown menu). Then as an "Additional Question" you will be asked for your "Relay Team Name". This is where you get creative and come up with a unique team name, and make sure all 4 runners on your team use the same team name when they register!!

The Uniformed Services 10K was introduced to the NL Running calendar last October, and this year returns as a sanctioned NLAA event on August 19.
The race starts and finishes in Bowring Park and includes the main 10K event, a 3K Family Walk/Run, and a 1K Kid's Race. Online registration will be available in July. For more information or to offer your assistance with this race contact Race Director Stewart Hughes sth21793@gmail.com.

Monday Night Rides Start Next Week
The hugely popular Monday Night Beginners Group Bike Ride is returning yet again this year under the dedicated leadership of Flora Seymour.
Starting next Monday May 7 this road ride is ideal for any new cyclist or new triathlete with a mountain or road bike looking for a group riding experience. Pace is EASY and distance is between 20 and 30 kilometers ( 1-2 hours).
TriNL membership is mandatory (new this year) for insurance reasons as this is a sanctioned TriNL event presented by the St.john's Triathlon committee, and you MUST wear a helmet!
Meet at the Sunshine Camp Bennett's Road parking lot at 6:15 for a 6:30pm start. This ride will be fully supported with a lead rider and a sweep that can repair most minor mechanical problems such as flat tires or broken chains. No one gets left behind!

Roberts Forth In Kentucky
Gaye Roberts of Appleton ran the Kentucky Derby Marathon this past weekend placing 4th out of 95 competitors in her age group with a chip time of 3:34:43.
