Here's another great story by
Joe Ryan, this one about a 10-mile race in Halifax in 1928 that was dominated by
NL Runners!
In 1928, two Tely 10 champions, Ron O’Toole (1923-1925) and Cliff Stone (1926-1932) battled it out in the streets of Halifax
in the Halifax Herald – Evening Mail 10-mile “Modified Marathon”, a sister race to Newfoundland’s Telegram 10-miler.
Described by local papers as a sensational race, O’Toole won in 53:00:4/5 with Stone coming in second in 53:24.
The Newfoundland team placed 5 runners in the top 7 places and won the coveted team shield.
