The 3rd annual Newfoundland & Labrador Brain Tumour Walk is this Sunday October 2 at the Rotary Paradise Youth Center on McNamara Drive. Registration opens 8:30 am the event starts 10am with your choice of 2.5k or 5k walk or run.
Whether you've just begun your journey, you’re honouring a survivor, or you have lost someone close to you, you are part of the National Movement to End Brain Tumours. Bring your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to celebrate and pay tribute to everyone impacted by a brain tumour.

Cross Country School Series Final Meet This Saturday
The 3rd and final meet of the Atlantic Home Furnishings Cross Country Series For Schools is tomorrow morning Saturday October 1 at the Pippy Park Golf Driving Range, across from Marine Institute on Ridge Road.
Hundreds of kids will participate and dozens of volunteers are required to assist with course set-up, marshalling and general assistance.

Peters & Royle Win Huffin' Puffin Marathon
Ian Royle defended his Capital Subaru Huffin' Puffin Marathon title Sunday, completing the 42.2 kilometer course in 2 hours 41 minutes 53 seconds for the win. Andrew Bruce was 2nd in 2:53:29 with Ed Durnford 3rd in 2:56:24. In the ladies race it was Adrienne Peters (pictured) 1st in 3:22:54 followed by Melinda Saunders in 3:39:21 and Amy Adams in 3:40:51.
The Half Marathon was won by Jason Guy in 1:17:30 with Glen Lear 2nd in 1:20:32 and Brandon Sager 3rd in 1:21:03. For the ladies it was Jennifer Murrin for the win in 1:23:45, then Karen Stacey in 1:25:12 and Allison Hobeika in 1:29:03.
The event also features a Marathon Team Relay with teams of 4 and each runner completing 10-11 kilometers of the course. The winning team was PGTFC (Levi Moulton, Keeley Cox, Evan Knight, Eric Knight) in 2:46:06. 2nd place team was Pokemen (Jon Lodge, Matthew Norman, Michael Taylor, Michael Godsell) in 3:01:09 and 3rd was Greying Locks and the Three Bears (Scott Fitzgerald, Diana Quinton, Jeremy Korchoski, Sheldon Quinton) in 3:04:43.
All in all some 830 participants and 220 volunteers enjoyed a beautiful early-fall day at Bowring Park, downtown St. John's and Quidi Vidi Lake!

Trinity Fort To Forge 10K & 5K September 25
Scenic course follows the shore line with spectacular views of Trinity Harbour as you pass through Dunfield and Goose Cove. The 5K finishes in Dunfield where you will be transported back to Trinity. Much of the route is on gravel and off the main roads, and there are some challenging hills.

MUN 1st Place At Acadia XC Meet
Memorial's Matt Power led the Memorial Men's Team to a first place finish at the annual Acadia University Cross Country on Saturday. Power, winner of the Provincial 5K and the Five and Dime 5K claimed his third race victory in a row, covering the tough 6K course at Acadia in 21:03 for the win. Jordan Fewer was 4th in 21:56, Seamus Boyd Porter was 9th in 23:06, Zach Putt 11th in 23:29, Kyle MacLeod 12th in 23:30 and Jon Low 30th in 26:24.
In the Women's 5K race, Nicole Hollohan led the Seahawks finishing 9th in 21:17, followed by Megan Ryan 11th in 21:27, Emily Hickey 17th in 22:23, Jenny Brace 24th in 22:59 and Victoria Healey 35th in 24:00. The Women's Team finished 4th.
The Seahawks next race will be the St. Mary's / Dalhousie meet on October 8th in Halifax.

The NLAA Atlantic Home Furnishings Cross Country Series starts tomorrow Saturday September 17 (continuing on the following 2 Saturdays) at the Pippy Park Driving Range on Ridge Road (across from the Marine Institute).

Diamond Dash In Glovertown September 24
The 10th annual Diamond Dash is set for Saturday September 24 on the Ken Diamond Memorial Park trail just behind the Glovertown Arena.
Sponsored by the Town of Glovertown and The Fry Family Foundation, events include the 250M or 500M “Small Fry Runs”, and the 1.8K, 3.8K, or 5.4K distances for older runners. There is also a non-competitive group walk just prior to the races.

Five & Dime Course Records For Power & Fewer
Colin Fewer won the 10k race with a course record of 32:17 while first place woman was Jennifer Barron in 39:52.

Blueberry Harvest 10K Returns Sunday Sep 18
After a 1-year hiatus the Blueberry Harvest 10K in Harbour Grace returns to the race calendar, set for Sunday September 18 starting 10am.
The mostly flat course is very scenic, and quite fast for the first half with a slight climb from the 6k mark slowing you down a little. There's also a 3K race for the younger ones.
This year sees the introduction of online registration (NO IN-PERSON REGISTRATION), and a custom finisher medal for everyone that crosses the line.
