The RBC Training Ground
is an exciting development and funding opportunity for athletes across
Canada, and St. John’s has been chosen as one of the locations to host a
regional qualifying event starting 10am on April 15 at the NL Sports
Center (PowerPlex) on Crosbie Road.
Athletes between the ages of 14 and 25 will execute a SERIES OF WORKOUTS
and their results will be measured against performance benchmarks to
help identify those athletes who show the greatest potential. The four
key areas to measure are SPEED (0-40m sprint), STRENGTH (Isometric
Mid-Thigh Pull), POWER (Vertical Jump) and ENDURANCE
(20m Multi-Stage Shuttle Run or Beep Test).
From each local
qualifier, participants will be identified, based upon their athletic
performance, to attend the regional final where up to 100 athletes will
perform in front of national and provincial sport organization
officials. Up to 50 athletes from across the country could receive
additional
funding, mentorship and support from RBC and the COF to fuel their
passion and Olympic dreams. The top performer from each RBC Training
Ground regional final
will also receive the ultimate Olympic experience – a trip to the 2018
Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
