Royle & Dwyer Claim Huffin' Puffin Marathon Titles


Ian Royle defended his Capital Subaru Huffin' Puffin Marathon title yet again on Sunday, completing the scenic 2-loop 42.2 kilometer course in 2 hours 37 minutes 13 seconds in ideal conditions, and setting a new course record in the process! Rudy Riedlsperger was 2nd in 2:56:25 with Matthew Jurik 3rd in 2:58:22. In the ladies race it was Kim Dwyer 1st in 3:55:22 followed by Dianna Kane in 4:01:03 and Sharon Collins in 4:02:13.

The Half Marathon was won by Mark Greene in 1:14:14 with Will Fitzgerald 2nd in 1:17:40 and Peter Bazeley 3rd in 1:17:46. For the ladies it was Jennifer Murrin for the win in 1:18:29, repeating her win from last year and shaving more than 5 minutes off her time! Alison Walsh was 2nd in 1:24:35 with Karen Stacey 3rd in 1:26:24.

The event also features a Marathon Team Relay with teams of 4 and each runner completing 10-11 kilometers of the course. The winning team was ANE Morning Rush (Mark Croft, Don Fagan, Ed Durnford, Sheldon Marsh) in 2:43:45. 2nd place team was Runaways (Janelle Simmons, Thelma Greene, Tanya Joy, Lori Chaytor) in 3:12:26 and 3rd was RunPME (Matthew Pyne, Jeremy Eaton, Nicholas MacCallum, Andrew Pyne) in 3:17:26.

All in all some 900 participants and 250 volunteers enjoyed a beautiful early-fall (SUMMER!) day at Bowring Park, downtown St. John's and Quidi Vidi Lake!
