The predecessor to the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Marathon (now know as the
Huffin' Puffin) was a 25-mile "marathon" race at St. Bon's Field in St. John's way back in 1909!
" ... on Wednesday afternoon, August 18, 1909 ... two Boston Marathon champions
lined up side-by-side on a small playing field in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to run a 25-mile marathon - one hundred and fifty laps around a grassy oval."
