Garnish 10K This Saturday June 5

The 28th annual Garnish CHCM Timex 10K road race is this Saturday June 5 starting 12 noon.

REGISTER ONLINE until noon Thursday or in person race day from 10am - 11:30am at the Garnish Recreation Center. In person registration is also available in Marystown Tuesday from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Summer Games Building.

Ottawa 10K Results

Kate Vaughan

Among the 8500 runners in the Ottawa 10K Saturday night were Colin Fewer (31:13), Grant Handrigan (32:49) and Kate Vaughan (36:15).

Colin was 12th overall and 4th in his age group; Grant was 21st overall and 6th in his age group; Kate was 55th overall, 4th in her age group, and the 10th of 5020 females.

Watch Out Ottawa!

Record numbers of NL Runners are heading to the mainland this weekend to Run Ottawa. Race weekend includes a 10K on Saturday and a Marathon / Half Marathon on Sunday.

To hook up with many of the gang just look for the big NL Flag in the recovery area after Sunday's race, and drop by the Heart & Crown in the ByWard Market 7pm onward Sunday evening.

Second Trail Running Event Wednesday

The next in the series of Trail Running Meets presented by The Outfitters will take place Wednesday May 26 starting 6:30pm. Meet on the upper end of Allandale Road (see map) in Pippy Park.

The 7-8k course is moderate to difficult but easily completed in under an hour.

Premier's Athletic Awards Announced

The Premier's Athletic Awards have been announced with 94 young athletes across the province representing 25 sports picking up grants from $500 - $1500.

Race The Base Saturday July 3

Part of the Festival of Flags celebration, the 2010 Race The Base will take place in Argentia on Saturday July 3. Events include a 5k and a 10k run or walk.

REGISTER ONLINE before June 4 to save a few dollars.

Thomas Martin beat out Shawn Stratton by just 13 seconds to win Sunday's Not So Hilly Half Marathon in 1:24:43. First place female was Alison Jones in 1:34:23.

Ryan Four For Four

Running in his 4th marathon or ultra marathon over the past 4 weekends, Michael Ryan of Marystown completed the Pocono Marathon last Sunday in 3 hours 47 minutes.

Run For Freedom June 26

The 2010 Run For Freedom commemorating the Battle of Beaumont Hamel is Saturday June 26 in Riverhead, St.Mary's Bay.

Advance registration available at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road from 6-8:30pm on Thursday June 24. Race-day registration opens 8:30am at the Royal Canadian Legion in Riverhead and race starts 10am.  Chose from a competitive 8k ($10 fee) or recreational 5k ($5 fee). Post-race reception at the Legion.

ONLINE REGISTRATION is now open for the Commander Gander Road Races set for 8am Saturday July 31 in Gander (of course!).

Online registration is closed but there are still a few spots left in this Sunday's Not So Hilly Half Marathon.

Register in person tonight from 6-8:30pm at Toyota Plaza Kenmount Road. Kit pickup is Saturday from 1-5pm at the Soccer Hut on Arena Road in Mount Pearl.

Corner Brook Sun Run June 5

The annual Arthur James Sun Run in Corner Brook is Saturday June 5. This year the distance has been increased from 7K to 8K (approximately 5 miles).

Registration on Griffin Drive opens 10am with race starting 11am.  Fee is just $5; many thanks to race sponsor Arthur James.

Gander Run For Arthritis June 20

The Kim Stuckey Memorial Walk/Run for Arthritis is Sunday June 20 at St. Martin's Hall on Fraser Road in Gander. Registration starts 1pm with the walk and run starting 2pm.

Hobeika Wins Mississauga Marathon

Allison in 2007

A big congratulations to Allison Hobeika for her 3:08:43 marathon and 1st place finish among 706 ladies at yesterday's Mississauga Marathon. This was Allison's first marathon since her 2007 victory in St. John's when she clocked in at 3:04:21 for 1st place overall.

Also among the NL Runners in Mississauga yesterday were Dan Inkpen (4.36.09) and Jennifer McCreath (4:56:03). It was Jennifer's 4th marathon in 27 days.

Harbour Front Finish Line Shots

165 runners completed this morning's Harbour Front 10K in downtown St.John's. Colin Fewer was first to finish in 31 minutes 18 seconds followed in the male division by Shawn Miller in 35:47 and Edward Durnford in 36:23.

First place female and 2nd overall was Kate Vaughan in 35:26 followed by Caroline McIlroy in 37:44 and Alison Walsh in 39:40.

138 Pre-Registered For Harbour Front

Online registration for this Sunday's Harbour Front 10K is now closed but late registration will be available race morning during race kit pick-up from 6:30am-7:30am at Atlantic Place.

138 RUNNERS are pre-registered and in spite of todays snow,  Sunday looks like sunny skies with temperatures approaching 10 degrees.

Trail Running Event May 19

Next Wednesday May 19th The Outfitters are holding their first Trail Running Meet open to anyone interested in an organized, challenging run. This will be an easy-moderate 40-45 minute run starting 6:30pm at the North Bank Lodge in Pippy Park.

Exploits Road Runners will be hosting the Aliant Centennial Cup 10k and 5k on Sunday June 20th starting 9am from the YMCA on Price's Avenue.

The "downtown" Harbour Front 10K is this Sunday May 16 starting 8am on Harbour Drive. Late registration and race kit pickup will be race morning at Atlantic Place from 6:30-7:30am.

Fredericton Marathon Results

Congratulations to the gang at yesterday's Fredericton Marathon including Wilf McIsaac (4.07.00), Scott McIsaac (4.14.48), Jennifer McCreath (4.36.33) and Alice Lee Simms (Half Marathon 2.13.40).

More Ultras For Michael

Over the past 3 weekends Michael Ryan from Marystown has run his 4th, 5th and 6th ultras of 2010.

On April 24 he ran the Sybil Ludington 50K in 4:28, good for 9th place overall and 3rd place in the 30-39 age group. On May 1 it was the Muddy Marathon in Newfoundland, New Jersey but he was DQ'd after 20 miles for missing the 2 hour per loop cutoff by 2 minutes. And yesterday he ran the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Championship 50k in 5:20, placing 4th overall and 3rd in his age group.

Michael's brother Denis was one of 34,868 finishers at Sunday's Vancouver Sun Run finishing in 37:17 for 143rd place overall.

Another Marathon For McCreath

Congratulations to Jennifer McCreath on completing yet another marathon ... the Big Sur last week in 4:49:49.

Vancouver Marathon Results

Among the finishers at last weekend's Vancouver Marathon were Alf Power (4:31:40), Regina Coady (4:34:05) and Linda Hensman (4:39:09). Susan Barry ran the 8K in 44:15.

See the following update received a couple of days ago from Liam Delaney:

So far this season I've run a 6:39 2k steeple for a 3rd place finish, a 10th place 4:16 finish out of 93 at the Nike Rowland Games, a first place finish at the Bay Of Quinte meet in the 2k steeple with a 6:29 and a 5th place in the 3000m with a 9:30.

Hoping for some good times tomorrow and saturday at the Kinsmen Invitational here at TISS starting with the 3000m tomorrow evening then the steeple saturday morning and the 1500m saturday evening!

Physio 5K Run/Walk Tomorrow

The Physiotherapy Foundation is holding their annual 5k fun run/walk tomorrow Sunday May 9 starting 9:30am at the Wedgewood Park Community Center.

Laheys Run London Marathon

Paul & Rosemary Lahey

The volcanic cloud almost cost them their trip, but Paul & Rosemary Lahey eventually made it overseas and completed the recent London Marathon.

Paul crossed the line in 4:03:14 while Rosemary finished in 5:36:36 taking more than an hour off her 2009 Newfoundland Marathon time.

Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon Results

At least 3 NL Runners completed last week's Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.

Congratulations to Bruce Sheppard (3:48:34), Mahlodi Tau (4:06:16), and Bob Hyslop (4:24:28).

Fiona Grant did the half in 2:01:44.

Harbour Front Is Back!

It came down to the wire but organizers are happy to announce that the traditional "downtown" Harbour Front 10K course has been approved by the City and is a GO!

Advance registration is online only, open until midnight next Thursday, and is available HERE.

Race starts 8am Sunday May 16 with late registration available race morning at Atlantic Place from 6:30-7:30am. Start line is on Harbour Drive just east of The Keg.

Alyward & Cochrane Win CB Opener

The Take the Plunge Spring Opener 5K took place in Corner Brook Sunday past. Dean Alyward was first in 16:40 and Katheryn Cochrane was first place female in 20:53.
